The original method of engraving items, manual engraving uses a
pantograph device to transfer your desired engraving from a template of
letters to the item being engraved. The most commonly used tool is a
diamond tip which cuts into the material when dragged across the
surface, leaving a very thin line in the surface of the material. This
method works well with lettering with fine lines or elaborate detail.
Rotary engraving tips can also be used. These tips are spun at a high
speed and actually cut into the surface of the material. The tips are
"V" shaped, and have varying widths of flats at the tip. By changing
the depth of cut and rotary tip, the engraver can alter the look of the
engraving. Although it is still used for certain items and specials,
manual engraving is quickly being replaced by the more modern, computer
assisted and laser engraving techniques. We use manual engraving on
small items , jewellery items , cylindrical and non flat items.
We have two machines used for manual engraving.
